PRESS: Ministry wants to identify domains via state services
MOSCOW, Oct 26 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has suggested identifying .ru and .рф domain administrators via the state services system, which should facilitate work of law-enforcers to fight against fraudsters, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday.
The ministry wants the domain registrars that are accredited with the Coordination Center for TLD .ru/. рф, the national registry of the .ru and . рф domains, to be connected to the unified system of identification and authentication. The move will enable the registrars not to request data from every client, but get them directly from the system.
The coordination center’s Director Andrei Vorobyov said the initiative seeks to make the procedure of registration of domain names easier and will enable the law enforcement entities not to ask for information about certain names from registrars.
According to Statdom, the .ru zone has 4.97 million registered domains and the рф zone has 723,000 domains, and their number has been declining.
